At Ikkan Sushi, we believe in more than just serving exceptional Japanese cuisine—we believe in honoring the spirit, culture, and evolving stories of Japan. That’s why we were proud to be one of the sponsors of NOMAD: Perspectives on Home in a Changing Japan, a powerful solo exhibition that opened this July in the heart of London.
Held at the 67 York Street Gallery, NOMAD is an evocative visual journey that explores the meaning of “home” through the lens of contemporary Japan. Curated and illustrated by Molly Maine, the exhibition draws from real-life interviews with digital nomads, local residents, and earthquake evacuees across Japan. From reflections on remote work to the weight of tradition and the scars of natural disaster, each artwork tells a deeply personal story. The show not only captivated visitors with its unique artistic voice but also gave back—donating half of its profits toward earthquake recovery efforts in Noto.
When we heard about this project, we felt an instant connection. At Ikkan Sushi, we strive to bring a taste of Japan’s authenticity to Londoners through every plate we serve. Sponsoring this exhibition felt like a natural extension of our mission—supporting Japanese art, identity, and expression in a way that resonates beyond the plate.
During the private view of the exhibition, Ikkan Sushi had the honor of providing a curated selection of fresh sushi and small bites to guests, designed to complement the tone of the evening. The reactions were heartfelt—many shared how the food brought them closer to the emotional essence of the exhibition. Just as each artwork shared a perspective on Japan, each bite we served carried its own story of flavor, technique, and tradition.
We were also thrilled to see the gallery space buzzing with energy—an atmosphere enhanced not just by the art, but also by the sense of community. With fellow sponsors like Kirin Beer, The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, and Colive Fukuoka, the night felt like a celebration of creative partnerships built around shared values.
At Ikkan Sushi, we don’t just celebrate Japanese food—we celebrate its heritage, innovation, and evolving narrative in the world. Supporting NOMAD was a reminder that art and food both have the power to bring people together, spark meaningful conversations, and connect cultures across borders.
As NOMAD continues to inspire audiences and give back to those in need, we’re grateful to have played a small part in its journey. And as always, we welcome you to our restaurant in London to experience more of what Japan has to offer—one dish at a time.
